There are 8 galleries in the Italy - Tuscany category

Florence Siena Chianti

Florence
Any visit to Tuscany is incomplete without a visit to the city at the heart of the renaissance, Florence. These photographs show how modern Florence remains at ease with its past.

Siena
This might be heresy, but I prefer Siena over Florence. Siena is an architectural gem today largely because it became a backwater in the 1400s. Losing the war with the Florentines and suffering a major population decline due to the Black Death meant that it avoided the "attentions" of 19th century architects who altered so much of Florence.

Chianti
The region between Florence and Siena, Chianti means more than Sangiovese grapes and robust red wine. It is also one of the most beautiful parts of Tuscany, with wooded hillsides and well-preserved towns and villages.

Arezzo San Gimignano Lucca

Arezzo
The photographs in this gallery capture the beauty of Arezzo and preparations for "Giostra del Saraceno", a recreation of a medieval jousting competition held every year in September.

San Gimignano
West of the road between Florence and Siena, San Gimignano is famous for its crop of medieval towers and local white wine.

Lucca
A prosperous town west of Florence, and the center of the Tuscan olive oil industry. Lucca's charm derives from its Romanesque architecture, medieval fortifications and unpretentious lifestyle.

La Crete Volterra

La Crete
The Crete is an agricultural area south of Siena with very unusual landscape of rolling clay hills. The photographs show the stark, "moonscape" of the region during fall / autumn.

Volterra
Famous for its alabaster workshops, Volterra rises from the Tuscan plain and ends in crumbling cliffs that have claimed nearly a third of the town in the past 500 years.
