Dordogne
During the 14th and 15th centuries, the 100 years war between the English and French was fought along the banks of the strategically important Dordogne rivers. The result is well-preserved fortified 'bastide' towns and towering castles.

Jura
The Jura is the area of Eastern France next to Switzerland, south of Dijon and west of Geneva.

Lot
Cahors, the capital of the Lot department is two hours' drive due North from Toulouse. Picturesque villages and vineyards spread west and east along the river Lot.
